Installing OpenHaldex
Most installs take under ten minutes with a harness. Without one, you'll build a short Y-branch loom using the pins supplied with the controller.
Generation 5 (plug-and-play)
With the Gen5 harness this takes a few minutes and everything happens inside the car.
- Lift the rear seat baseThe Haldex connector sits underneath.
- Split the factory connectorUnplug the Haldex connector between the car's loom and the coupling.
- Fit the harnessPlug the harness in between the two halves, then clip the controller onto the harness tail.
- DrivePut the seat back down if you like, then set it up from your phone (see First start).
Generation 1 to 4
Generations 1, 2 and 4 all use the same Gen1-4 harness. The connection is at the Haldex coupling itself, so you'll be working under the rear of the car and routing the harness back inside. Allow more time than a Gen5 install.
- Unplug the couplingRemove the original connector from the Haldex unit and fit the long end of the harness in its place.
- Route the harnessFeed the long end, together with the original connector, back into the boot floor through the factory grommet.
- Connect the controllerPair the original plug with the harness, then fit and secure the controller.
- DriveSet it up from your phone (see First start).
Manual wiring (no harness)
Controllers sold without a harness include connector pins so you can build a Y-branch loom yourself: it sits between the two VW connectors, with a tail to the controller's MX23A12NF plug.
Permanent 12 V (Term30) and ground must also be branched to the controller: Term30 to MX pin 1, ground to MX pin 2. Chassis CAN comes from the vehicle side and goes to the controller; the controller's second CAN output goes to the Haldex side.

The controller's own connector pinout is on the Hardware page. Some cars need a 10k pull-down resistor on the brake or handbrake outputs.
First start
- Join the Wi-FiConnect your phone to
OpenHaldex-C6. It's open by default. - Open the interfaceGo to
192.168.1.1oropenhaldex.localin your browser. - Select your generationOn the Settings page, pick your Haldex generation and save.
- Learn your HaldexRun Learn Haldex from Settings so lock requests are exact. On Gen5
554Kunits, turn on Fix Hunt as well. - Set a passwordFrom the Diagnostics page, rename the network and set a WPA2 password if you want one.
If the car is left for long periods on a permanent feed, set up low power mode too.
